Welcome to the Reading Room!
Kennedy School's Reading Room consists of nine reading specialists. All K-3rd grade classrooms have an hour block of Reading Room time daily. Students are divided into small groups and our reading instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of each individual group.
All students in grades K-2, as well as 3rd grade reading intervention students receive 20-30 minutes of FUNdations, which is a thorough, multisensory, structured literacy approach to teaching foundational reading and spelling skills. It systematically addresses:

Guided reading lessons include phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary instruction. The students are exposed to a variety of texts and genres throughout the school year.
