Welcome to the Reading Room!
Kennedy School's Reading Room consists of seven reading specialists. All K-3rd grade classrooms have Reading Room daily. Students are divided into small groups and our reading instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of each individual group.
Students receive 30 minutes of FUNdations during our scheduled Reading Intervention time. FUNdations is a thorough, multisensory, structured literacy approach to teaching foundational reading and spelling skills. It systematically addresses:

Guided reading lessons are 30-40 minutes depending on the grade level. They include phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary instruction. The students are exposed to a variety of texts and genres throughout the school year.
